Media is about the medium

News reporting really isn’t so much about what you are presenting but how you are presenting it. A good presentation, including the stylistic and technical conventions,  has to be, well, a good presentation. While the video above is comical, it makes all the news-reporting conventions we often take for granted painfully obvious.

Firstly, do you think there might some parallel here to essay writing? Although content is important, how you present your content is equally vital to crafting a sound argument at the end of the day.

Secondly, do watch your local news program tonight (e.g. News 5 @ 930pm) and see if you notice similar stylistic conventions. Try to think about why things are presented this way.
