Originality dead. Everything a remix?

Here’s an interesting web video series that actually analyzes how everything (especially entertainment media) are supposedly mere remixes.

You can catch part 1 here.

Would you consider a remix an original creation? Why?

  1. Yes.

“Originality is the aspect of created or invented works by as being new or novel, and thus can be distinguished from reproductions, clones, forgeries, or derivative works.[citation needed] An original work is one not received from others nor one copied based on the work of others.[citation needed]. It is a work created with a unique style and substance. […] An original idea is one not thought up by another person beforehand. Sometimes two or more people can come up with the same idea independently.” – Wikipedia

Since I am the first person to think of (and record) this answer, is my answer original, despite the fact that I copied the definition off Wikipedia?

On another note, I love the point that “two or more people can come up with the same [original] idea independently” – which means that some of our “evidence” that nothing is original may well be invalid if the two people genuinely thought of their (identical) ideas independently.
